Kratom is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. The leaves of the kratom tree contain psychoactive compounds, including mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Mitragynine is the main psychoactive alkaloid, giving a product its efficacy.

Kratom can be consumed in several different forms, and the method of consumption can affect the onset of its effects and the overall experience. Some common methods of consuming kratom include kratom tea, kratom capsules, kratom extracts, mixing with food or beverages, or chewing on raw kratom leaves.

Kratom products are typically made using either raw leaf kratom powder (powder and capsules) or kratom extract powder. The main difference between the two lies in their concentration and potency. While raw leaf kratom powder is made from the dried leaves of the kratom tree ground into a fine powder, kratom extract powder is a concentrated form of kratom that is made by extracting the active alkaloids from the raw kratom leaves. A beginner kratom user may be suggested to begin their kratom journey using raw leaf kratom powder while an experienced kratom user may be suggested to use an extract product due to their search for a stronger efficacy.

Some states have imposed restrictions on the sale or use of kratom. These states include Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. In these states, kratom may be restricted or prohibited by law. It’s important to note that the legal status of kratom is subject to change, and local regulations may vary within each state. Therefore, it’s advisable to verify the current legal status of kratom in your specific location before purchasing or using it.
